DTS DIGITAL
& ANALOG CINEMA PROCESSORS |
|

The
DTS System brings premier quality discrete multi-channel digital sound to
the movies. The uncompromising DTS digital process set the standard of
quality for cinema sound by delivering an exact copy of the studio master
recordings to neighborhood theaters. This marks the ultimate performance
possible in a cinema sound delivery system. Now, every moviegoer can hear
the sound exactly as the moviemaker intended, without the limitation and
degradation of analog optical sound or processes which attempt to put the
digital audio data on the film itself.
Because DTS prints have a conventional
stereo optical track as well as the DTS timecode, a single inventory of
prints can be used for all theaters. In DTS theaters, the optical sound
track also provides a fail-safe backup. The DTS process makes digital
sound an excellent and practical release format for all movies. |

DTS
6AD Cinema Processor
Premier Performance for Digital and Analog Soundtracks
Choosing a cinema
processor for new theaters is a key decision; choosing added value is a
sound decision. The DTS-6AD Cinema Processor combines premium sound quality
with ease of use and unmatched flexibility. The unit provides superior
digital and analog sound playback by integrating the functions of a Cinema
Processor, six-track Digital Processor and Booth Monitor into a single,
4-unit package. The DTS-6AD also provides a range of extra features as
standard — features that require costly add-ons and installation in
competitive products.
For maximum reliability, all main processing is done on three plug-in boards
with separate power supplies for digital boards and analog boards. The
analog supply also provides power when switched to bypass mode, and an
optional external power supply connection is available. DTS 5.1-channel
digital playback, including timecode reader, bracket and cable, is standard.
An optional second 35 mm timecode reader, bracket and cable can be ordered
for two-projector operation. A 70 mm timecode reader is also available.

DTS-6D
Digital Playback System
Superior Solution for Digital Upgrades
There is no question that digital sound
offers exceptional clarity, depth, and realism, and the DTS-6D Digital
Playback System offers premier-quality performance with unmatched
flexibility. Because DTS utilizes less data compression than other
formats, our encoded soundtracks offer higher playback quality. The same
print can also be used with different Data CD-ROM discs that contain
alternate-langue soundtracks, thereby reducing print inventory costs. And,
since the DTS soundtrack is contained on a separate medium, there are no
wear issues with repeated playback; the same CD-ROMs can also be used with
36, 70 and 35 mm prints.
Operation of the DTS-6D system is
automatic and fail-safe. The system reads the timecode on the film and
plays the correct sound for each frame of film projected so that edits
(digital and non-digital) are automatically accommodated. The DTS-6D
checks a serial number in the timecode and on the CD-ROM discs to assure
that the correct soundtrack is being played with the movie shown. The unit
is compatible with all existing cinema processors and is easy to install
and operate.
The DTS-6D’s unique flexibility offers
a choice of digital playback in 5.1 or six channels (DTS-6DSV), and can
read SMPTE or DTS timecode. Outfitted with an optional plug-in relay
board, the DTS-6D also offers optional event outputs to trigger special
effects from specially encoded material.

DTS-ES
Extended Surround Decoder
The Latest Innovation in Surround Sound
The DTS-ES Extended Surround decoder
provides exhibitors with added dramatic surround effects. Designed to take
advantage of the latest innovations in surround sound formats, Extended
Surround/ES technology allows filmmakers to dazzle audiences with sound
that envelops them from the rear and dramatically improves localization.
An increasing number of film directors
are using ES Surround’s additional rear channel, which is routed to an
array of speakers along the back wall of the auditorium. This extra back
channel is matrix-encoded into the left and right surround channels, much
as a center front channel in optical formats is matrix-encoded within the
L and R channels. Providing a fully immersive and engrossing cinematic
experience, sound effects and other material can literally sweep around an
audience — even seeming to fly over them – through the use of left,
right and center surround loudspeaker channels.
Using the latest DSP technology, the
DTS-ES provides digital one-octave equalization of all channels, and
includes separate EQ settings for ES and non-ES modes. The system is
fully compatible with all current 5.1-channel digital formats and systems.

DTS-ECP
Expandable Cinema Processor
Your First Step Toward Digital Audio:
A Full-Featured, Expandable Processor
The DTS-ECP Expandable Cinema Processor
integrates the functions of a full-featured Analog Cinema Processor and
Booth Monitor into a single, 4-unit package. The DTS-ECP can be easily
upgraded to deliver digital audio playback through the addition of a DTS-DPP
Digital Processing Package.
The DTS-ECP handles precision playback
of analog sound sources – an external 6-track analog input is standard
for connecting multi-track sources. For maximum reliability, three plug-in
boards handle all processing, with separate power supplies for digital and
analog boards. For maximum flexibility, theater EQ, A- and SR-type noise
reduction, as well as matrix decoding, are all accomplished in the digital
domain.
The DTS-ECP provides a selection of
wideband, full-range outputs for all channels, or built-in Linkwitz-Reilly
crossovers that can be used for bi-amplified cinema systems. Standard
crossover frequencies are 500 Hz, 800 Hz and 1.2 kHz; other frequencies
can be special-ordered.
B-chain alignment is easily accomplished
using a built-in pink noise generator. For faster setup, EQ settings can
be copied from one channel to another. Each channel features Bass and
Treble controls. One-third octave EQ is provided for the screen channels
and one-octave for the surrounds. Control and storage of settings is
accomplished using a laptop or PC.
The DTS-DPP Digital Processing Package
upgrades a DTS-ECP to perform as a full-featured digital processor, and
includes a DSP decoder board, three DTS disc drives, a display panel
assembly and a reader head.

DTS-CSS
Cinema Subtitling System
DTS has taken its world-class technology
one step further to develop the DTS-CSS Cinema Subtitling System. The
innovative unit projects subtitles directly onto the screen, instead of
etching or overlaying them onto the film itself. The benefit to
distributors is simple to understand: significant cost reductions for
limited-use prints, which includes the need for internegatives and
interpositives for overlay printing, or the need to perform laser etching
and other functions associated with the traditional subtitling process.
The resulting single-print solution for worldwide distribution virtually
eliminates the need to produce, distribute, store, record and then scrap
additional print inventories.
Using the DTS-CSS, distributors can
re-purpose domestic prints in foreign markets — to the extent that
release patterns and territories permit — without having to create
separate prints with foreign language soundtracks, or new prints with
subtitles for a given territory. Essentially, distributors can now easily
recycle domestic prints by creating a new DTS disc that provides a foreign
language audio track or subtitling information to project on the screen.

DTS-6DSV
6-Track System
Special Value For Special Venues
Large screen and motion-based ride
films, theaters, museums, parks, restaurants and road shows count on DTS
technology to provide the most flexible and reliable sound presentation.
DTS is the only digital audio technology that can be used in any film
format or perf and frame rate combination — from 16 mm to 70 mm; with
24, 30 or 60 frame rates, 5, 8, 10 or 15 perf. Playback conversion from 35
mm to 70 mm on a 35/70 projector can be accomplished with a simple reader
change.
In addition, a six-channel configuration
can be custom-tailored to user requirements. The unit plays both DTS
5.1-channel Cinema CD-ROM discs and DTS six-channel Special Venue CD-ROM
discs. It holds three CD-ROMs for 83-minute capacity per CD-ROM drive in
6-channel mode. (Or 100 minutes per disc in 5.1 mode.) Adding the device
involves a simple installation on most cinema processors.
